We have exciting news! Thanks to our Equity Multiplier Funding we are elated to announce that we officially have a math intervention teacher at Las Flores. Whoohoo! Below, you will find Mrs. Kiyomi Kwak's professional bio. Take a look, and when you see her around, please be so kind as to extend her a hearty, LEOPARD welcome!
With 17 years of experience in the Bellflower Unified School District, Kiyomi Kwak has recently transitioned to her role as the Math Intervention Teacher at Las Flores. Her career is distinguished by a deep commitment to enhancing math education across various grade levels.
Before joining Las Flores, Mrs. Kwak served as a Teacher on Special Assignment for Math for two years, where she played a pivotal role in supporting and developing fellow math educators. Her collaborative work with Mrs. Sanzaro and her involvement with students from TK through 12th grade were key highlights of this period.
Mrs. Kwak's teaching journey began with 14 years of dedicated service at Mayfair, where she taught math at both the high school and middle school levels. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Business from CSU Fullerton, a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Math from CSULB, and a Master’s in Education, Teaching, and Learning from Brandman University.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Kwak values quality time with her family and enjoys watching her three children engage in their various activities. Her passion for teaching and unwavering dedication to student success continue to drive her impact in education
The dedicated staff of Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy returned to work early on August 7th to learn about vocabulary instruction. Part of the day also focused on the comprehension strategy of Monitoring and Clarifying. Leopards "young and old" will be learning how to pay close attention to their understanding and to use strategies to help when they are "clunking." Be on the lookout for a "Fix-Up Strategy" Chart coming soon! Looking forward to a year of empowering our Leopards to take ownership of their learning!
