California & National School to Watch
Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy is proud to have been selected as a 2026 California and National School to Watch through the Schools to Watch initiative and the California Schools to Watch network. This prestigious honor recognizes middle-level schools that demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, innovative practices, and a strong commitment to meeting the needs of every student.
The Schools to Watch program, sponsored nationally by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, identifies schools that serve as models of excellence. Recognized schools must demonstrate strength in four key areas:
-
Academic Excellence – rigorous curriculum, effective instruction, and strong student growth
-
Developmental Responsiveness – support for the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of young adolescents
-
Social Equity – high expectations and meaningful access to learning for all students
-
Organizational Effectiveness – strong leadership, collaboration, family partnerships, and systems for continuous improvement
The designation is awarded through a rigorous and highly competitive process that includes a comprehensive application, extensive evidence of student outcomes and program effectiveness, and a formal site visit conducted by trained educators. Schools hold this recognition for three years and must reapply to demonstrate sustained excellence.
Being named a 2026 California and National School to Watch reflects Las Flores’ dedication to high-quality, personalized independent study, strong relationships with families, innovative instructional practices, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy will receive its California recognition on March 6, 2026, and will be honored at the national Schools to Watch conference in Washington, D.C. on June 25, 2026, joining a select group of schools across the state and nation recognized as leaders in middle-grades education.
