Our goal is to assist families with the development and implementation of a creative, well-rounded, standards-based academic experience that is tailored to the pupil. In addition, our unique blended program enables students to learn in the privacy of their home as well as the Las Flores Educational center. Through Las Flores, families can not only truly experience how “it takes a village to educate a child” but also confidently know that their child will be more than prepared for the rigors of tomorrow.

Academic Excellence
At the Home Education Independent Study Academy, rigorous instruction means challenging students to think deeply, solve complex problems, and engage critically with the world around them. We design our curriculum to go beyond rote memorization, fostering analytical skills and creativity that prepare students for future academic and professional success.
Our educators integrate advanced technology, real-world applications, and collaborative learning opportunities to ensure students are not only mastering content but also applying their knowledge in meaningful ways. Through Universal Design for Learning, we provide diverse pathways for students to access, engage with, and demonstrate their learning, ensuring high standards are achievable for every learner. We also support rigorous instruction by cultivating a growth mindset. Students are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from feedback, and persist in the face of setbacks, helping them build resilience and a love for learning. This comprehensive approach empowers students to reach their highest potential while developing the skills and confidence needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
A Caring Community
At Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy, we recognize that a strong, caring community is essential for student success. Our school thrives on the connections we build among students, families, and staff, creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to grow.
We believe parents are vital partners in the educational journey. Through ongoing collaboration, open communication, and shared decision-making, we ensure families play an active role in shaping their child’s learning experience. From personalized learning plans to community events and volunteer opportunities, parents are integral to our mission of fostering both academic and personal development.
Our school community is further strengthened through shared experiences that bring us together. Whether participating in small group learning, attending school-wide celebrations, or engaging in civic and service-oriented projects, we provide opportunities for students and families to connect in meaningful ways. These interactions build relationships, create a sense of belonging, and reflect our commitment to nurturing the whole child.
By embracing collaboration, compassion, and inclusivity, we cultivate a school culture where students and families feel empowered, supported, and united in their educational goals. Together, we prepare our students to be successful, empathetic citizens in an interconnected world.
Our Commitment to Diversity
At Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy, we celebrate diversity as a strength that enriches our school community and prepares students to thrive in a multicultural, interconnected world. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. Our approach to diversity begins with culturally responsive teaching practices that honor the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of our students and families. By embedding diverse voices and perspectives into our curriculum, we foster a deeper understanding of different cultures while cultivating empathy and respect among students.
Through Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we ensure that all students have equitable access to rigorous instruction. By offering multiple pathways for engagement, representation, and expression, we create learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of every learner while supporting their individual strengths and challenges.
Restorative practices are a cornerstone of our commitment to building a strong, inclusive community. We prioritize open dialogue, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving to address conflicts and strengthen relationships. This approach nurtures a culture of accountability, understanding, and mutual respect, allowing all members of our school to grow and learn together.
Together, these practices reflect our dedication to equity, inclusion, and the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential in a supportive and affirming environment.
Parent Advisory Committee
At Las Flores Home Education Independent Study Academy, we believe in the saying, “It takes a village to educate a child.” Our school thrives on the active partnership between parents, staff, and the community to create a supportive and engaging educational environment.
While many schools rely on a traditional PTA to foster parent involvement, Las Flores takes a unique approach with its Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Created in response to parent feedback, the PAC serves a similar purpose but operates under the leadership of the school principal. This structure fosters an even stronger connection between the school and families, ensuring that parents’ voices are closely aligned with the school’s vision and goals.
The PAC meets monthly, offering both in-person and virtual attendance options to accommodate busy schedules. To keep all families informed, meeting recordings and minutes are shared, allowing those who cannot attend to stay updated and provide input. Parents are encouraged to share their questions, concerns, and feedback directly with the principal, creating a dynamic and inclusive forum for collaboration.
Joining the Las Flores PAC provides parents with a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the school’s development, engage in rich discussions, and help shape the educational experience for all students. At Las Flores, we value the vital role parents play in our community and strive to ensure their voices are heard and their involvement celebrated.
Parent Testimonials
"As a parent, you're faced with making many decisions. One of the best decisions we've made is sending our children to Las Flores to receive their education. Not only have they thrived academically, they've blossomed into well-balanced adolescents who love school. Las Flores makes student-driven learning a top priority. This has allowed my children to take an active role in their education, something as I parent, I highly value. The tight knit community at Las Flores offers a family feel that is unmatched...I highly recommend Las Flores to any family who is wanting a true parent-teacher partnership, a challenging, positive environment all while teaching your child to develop grit and a growth mindset."

"My four sons have had a wonderful experience at Las Flores. They’ve gained not only strong academic knowledge but also valuable social skills. The teachers and staff are very supportive and always make sure to meet each child’s needs. It’s been a joy working with the staff and being part of such a great community of parents. Las Flores has particularly made a huge impact on my eldest son as well helping him build the foundation he needed for his academic and social growth. Thanks to the support he received, he is now attending Azusa Pacific University. I’m very grateful for everything Las Flores has done for my children. We have been part of the Las Flores Community for 12 years. If you are looking for a school that not only cares for a child's academic growth but social growth as well I highly recommend Las Flores."

“As an out of district family, I discovered Las Flores in 2021, after our home school district was scheduled to reopen with covid restrictions. A week before the school year started, I was informed our home district would not be providing my then-senior daughter’s AP or Honors classes, or an advanced Japanese class (to earn the State Seal of Biliteracy). I quickly did my research for any school district or online program that had these specialized classes at a time when traditional schools were not fully reopening. As a disabled parent, I was also met with the challenge of finding a program I could get my children to and from. My research lead me to Las Flores Home Education Academy, where my daughter could take these advanced classes at home, including dual enrollment with Cerritos College (for Japanese), while still participating in all that the B.U.S.D. had to offer. At the same time, I opted to enroll my then-eighth grade son, who is now in eleventh grade at Las Flores. He is thriving while learning at home with a rigorous curriculum, support from staff, and the flexibility around our schedule to attend testing on campus. As a family, we appreciate the unique learning experience Las Flores has to offer!”
